I am a Family Medicine Physician with additional fellowship training in Sports Medicine. I enjoy helping patients with the variety of medical conditions we see in primary care, particularly musculoskeletal conditions (acute injuries or more chronic problems).
I initially chose to pursue a career in Family Medicine because I value the longitudinal relationship with patients along with the ability to evaluate a wide variety of medical conditions. I then developed a strong interested in musculoskeletal medicine – diagnosing and treating acute injuries and more chronic problems to help people maintain an active lifestyle. This led me to pursue fellowship training in Primary Care Sports Medicine, which I have practiced for the past 15 years. I enjoy getting to know each individual patient, and feel it is important to take time to listen to and understand people's concerns. I feel that it is important for providers and patients to have an honest an empathetic interaction with one another. I also value a sense of humor to get us through our challenges.
I received my undergraduate degree in Biology at THE Washington State University (Go Cougs!). After spending some time working for Fish and Wildlife and doing research at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, I decided to apply to medical school. I received my medical degree from the other University in the state of Washington, and completed Family Medicine residency training in the Seattle area. I then moved to Boise where I completed a fellowship in Primary Care Sports Medicine. After starting a Sports Medicine program at an outpatient clinic in Boise and working there for 15 years, I decided to move back to the Palouse to be close to family. I am happy to be back on the WSU campus and appreciate having the opportunity to work with the great group of students here!
I love doing anything outside – hiking, camping, rivers, lakes, biking, Nordic skiing, snowshoeing – along with traveling and exploring new places. I have been fortunate enough to travel to 5 of our 7 continents thus far.
Fortunately, my spouse and I share our love of the outdoors and travel so we are lucky to enjoy many adventures together along with two of the best dogs in the world. I value time spent with friends and the rest of my family, and also enjoy music, coffee, reading, good food and beverages.
