I am a family physician and a fellowship-trained sports medicine physician with a niche in providing primary care for college students. As the Director of Medical Services, I see patients in the clinic and also work as an administrator to ensure the medical clinic meets the needs of our students.
I suffered an auto accident in high school that made me realize that I wanted to help people get better faster. In medical school, I loved all my rotations but felt I found "my people" when I rotated with a family medicine physician in rural Iowa. I am passionate about providing patient-centered primary care. I like to be accessible to my patients when they have questions, so I often encourage them to message me via the patient portal. I am fellowship-trained in sports medicine but enjoy the medical aspects of caring for athletes as much as the musculoskeletal aspects. I value my role as a primary care provider for students during their short time with us here at WSU. I try to teach them this value, how to advocate for themselves in the complicated US healthcare system, and encourage them to find a primary care provider as soon as they graduate from WSU and set roots at their next stage of life.
I graduated with a bachelor of science in zoology from the University of Idaho in 1996 and a medical doctorate from Creighton University School of Medicine in 2002. I returned to the Pacific Northwest to be closer to my family and attend the Family Medicine Residency of Idaho in Boise, Idaho. I completed my residency in 2005 and a primary care fellowship in sports medicine in 2007. I found my ideal mix of primary care and sports medicine by returning to Moscow, Idaho, as one of the University of Idaho Team Physicians and working in private practice. In 2012, I started at Cougar Health Services as a Team Physician and staff physician. I now enjoy mixing administration, sports medicine, and primary care as the Director of Medical Services at Cougar Health.
I returned to the Palouse because I love it here! The opportunity to work in primary care and collegiate athletics was also a dream come true. I live in Moscow with my spouse, Kevin, and our Boxers, Otis and Mylo. Tending my flower gardens in the evenings after work is one of my favorite things.
